This year has seen a great inc
rease of dog’s being named ‘human names’. in 2013, 19.88% of dog owners named their dog a human name. In 2014, it went up to 21.17%, whereas in 2015, 49% of dogs were named human names.

44% of US households have at least one dog, 94% of pet parents consider their dogs family and 45% of people admit to dressing up their pets.

Did you know that 10% of dog’s names from this year were inspired by pop culture. The top three being The Hunger Games, Harry potter and Star Wars with owners naming their dogs names such as Effie, Prim, Katniss, Cinna, Luna, Harry, Dobby, Chewbacca/Chewie, Luke and Leia. Some even got creative, naming their dog Harry Pawter, Hairy Potter and, my favourite, Bobba Fetch.

6% of dogs are named after food and drinks. The most popular being Ginger, Pepper, Peanut, Oreo, Olive, Guinness, Brandy, Porter, Whiskey and Kahlua.

Many owners like to name their dogs with a pun, most creative include Duke Smellington, Winston Burpshill and Zoey Dachshundel.

But it all comes down to the top 10 most popular names.
